What Happens to Your Junk After We Pick It Up?

Most people assume their junk goes straight to a landfill. The reality is different, and we think it matters.

Step 1: We Sort on the Truck

Before anything leaves your property, our crew does a quick sort. Items that are clearly usable go in one section. Construction debris and non-recyclables go in another. This takes a few minutes and saves a lot of material from the landfill.

Step 2: Usable Items Go to Donation Partners

Furniture, appliances, clothing, books, and household items in good condition go to our donation partners: Goodwill Industries, Salvation Army, and Habitat for Humanity ReStore. These organizations resell the items and use the proceeds to fund community programs.

If you want a donation receipt for tax purposes, let us know before the job and we will arrange it.

Step 3: Recyclable Materials Go to Certified Facilities

Metal, electronics, cardboard, and other recyclable materials go to certified recycling facilities. Electronics are handled through e-waste recycling programs that keep hazardous materials out of the ground.

Step 4: Construction Debris Goes to Certified Disposal Sites

Concrete, drywall, lumber, and other construction debris go to certified construction and demolition (C&D) disposal facilities. We are certified to haul in restricted areas across Los Angeles County where most haulers cannot legally dump.

Step 5: What Actually Goes to the Landfill

Less than 5% of what we collect ends up in a landfill. That is the material that cannot be donated, recycled, or otherwise diverted. We work to keep that number as low as possible.

Why This Matters

Los Angeles County generates millions of tons of waste every year. Responsible disposal is not just good for the environment. It is also the law. Illegal dumping carries significant fines and can result in criminal charges. When you hire Junk Master, you know your junk is handled legally and responsibly.
